Has anyone here built a complete separate sound system in the box of their pick up. This includes the head unit, crossovers, amps and speaker systems. On our build we started tossing out ideas for the build when Angie said why not build a separate system in the box under the tonneu cover that is switched 100% from the battery in the box. I started to think about how sweet this would be for just the awesome factor.

Anyone have any pictures of what they have done?

thanks and looking for ideas.

here is how i have mounted the 3 main power amps that will drive the 10's the 8's and the 5.5 mids. the amps are on 1 inch plywood standing up at the very front of the box. Then the battery box is tucked under and the 10's up front.

the head unit and eq with x-over is all accessible when the tonnau cover is lifted and there are separate switches wired in to turn all units on. the bass amps if nor needed can be remoted to not be on if not wanted.

cheers

been slowly working on this idea. had an old set of kef speakers that were ready for the junk heap. tore them down and used them as the frame work for the speaker boxes.

this is how it lays down. they will be covered in cloths and rugs yet. will need to be torn apart to go on the frame.

cheers (and yes this does sound good)

But, but, Why? Loved loud tunes up thru my 50's but now, not so much. The loud stuff blocks some of the noise and ringing in my ears but when the music stops the noise is worse. Believe me, old worn-out hearing sucks.

Enjoy the write-up.

Hi, not worried about volume, sounding good doesn't need to be loud, however, I have the option that it will go loud if the mood arises at an out door party or event. building it as a show truck. my 50 year old ears can't deal with too loud any more either.

Cheers

That certainly makes sense. My ears have forgotten what quality sound is. I'm thinking it is time to climb in to the attic and drag down the vinyl, 8-Tracks and cassettes. Think there are also a few 4-Tracks. That music should be perfect now with all the static in my head.

holy crap! how many speakers you need in there? looks like over kill but still pretty cool. You might as well go off the deep end and see how many speakers you can get wired up in there. might as well right, for that "awesome factor" you are looking for. You should turn the bed into a dump bed and then you would be able to angle the sound toward the crowd.

hi 91, thanks for the comments.... tilt bed huh... lol naa thats ok... with the hard tonnaue cover up and angled it redirects the mids nicely... its not built to make ears bleed... just to sound nice... but has the potential to crank if needed.

break down is 2 @ 10 inch bass... then 2 sets of mid paired tweets then a set of super high tweets... driven by 3 seperate amps with full 1/3 eq and 3 way xover... works very nice :)
