Hello everyone.
I can now say I have a v8 ranger, this has been very fun swap. I had a 92 shortbox reg cab 2.3l manual trans ranger that is now a little happier.
I took it out on a first test drive last week with my kids up and down
my gravel road. I am very happy with the way it runs and drives,
except for being a slight bit too light in the rear. I used a 91 grand marq
EFI 5.0l and a 91 m5od from a f-150 that worked very well.
I had to bent back the lip on the firewall tunnel and moved the
trans crossmember back about 2 inches and had the driveshaft
shortened 1 inch. used the L and L engine mount kit.
I used eveything from the grand marq engine such as exhaust manifolds,
p/s Pump with modified return port on resivour, alternator and all brackets.
I tucked the 4.0l extra cooling package radiator under the support and
used a reg old style fan with 3/8 of an inch shortened spacer that clears
well. I also decided to use the ford motorsports oil filter relocation kit
and mounted the filter inside the frame on the pass side. the oil lines
lay neatly inside the front frame support. I modified my steering intermediate
shaft with the sector side from a 98 expedition. This cleared the manifolds
with a little grinding on the drivers manifold. The trans shifter was a about
2inches forward from the orginal. I made a shifiter from both shifters from
either trans. I heated and bent the 150 trans shifter to clear dash and found
shifter too tall. So I cut it off about 2inches from the bottom and
cut off the 2.3l trans shifter off about an 1/2 inch below the rubber on shaft.
welded back toghter at the best angle. and found very close to orginal location. As far as the wireing goes for the EFI, I made this a simple as posible
I got the harness from the grand marq. I removed the pcm from the
ranger and pulled harness up out of pass kick panel. layed the grand marq
harness pcm connector up next to ranger pcm connector and removed the
red pin connector locks from both connectors. Then I implated all pcm powers
and grounds from ranger harness going to pcm into grand marq harness pcm
connector. (you will need a wireing digram from both vehicles to compare but
on EEC 4 these should be all the same pin locations.) Then i wired power to
injecters, IAC, 02 sensor heaters, and TFI module( Ignition module) from all
orginal powers at ranger harness. then i confirmed vehicle started and
passed all EEC quick tests. then i opened up grand marq harness and removed
all wiring that wasn't needed. I will get some pictures of my swap on here
soon. I realy enjoyed this swap it was a lot of fun. I hope some of this info
may make the readers decide to go ahead and make there little ranger a
v8 powered monster.

First time I've heard that the swap itself was fun:icon_confused: It's usually the end results that is where the fun starts.:D

Welcome to the world of Danger Rangers. These trucks are really a lot of fun with a V8. I have a 1991 Ranger with a 5.0 V8 that I am currently working on a 351 Cleveland to install in it. Let the good times roll!

5.0 powered Rangers are FUN for sure... Ford should have made them way back then and taken away a market that Dodge got and has dominated with the Dakota.

The 5.0 fits to well in the truck with very little mods to the actual truck itself.
