Undecided. Maintained gravel is better than neglected pavement. But if they can’t maintain pavement gravel is going to be a crapshoot.
The counties maintain the gravel roads/secondary paved. The state takes care of the highways/interstates.

Not even lieing, theres holes bigger on some of the state routes then you ever see on a gravel road.

I hit one so big a few months ago on M156 that i was seriously thanking the lord i had twin I beam.

When we were in Detroit for the Ranger reveal our driver went around a huge tank trap of a pothole on our way to the hotel. He said he had hit at some point prior and it broke his rim.

Gravel roads washboard, edges fall off and whatever. They can get really funky in the spring when the frost goes out, not much for potholes though. But we also have a grader come thru every couple weeks to keep them in shape.

If you can't fill a pothole you probably be running graders on gravel if you were to replace the paved road with gravel.

Doing things wrong, until I get it right.
down here in florida , the dirt roads are really sand pits. They get these aggravating wash boards though. Going slow over them is the worst ride ever, you have to haul ass over them and you barely notice. But the sand is loose and you don't want to much speed or you can end up with a close up view of the woods. the good thing is after it rains, not much for puddles, the water just goes through the sand and back to the ocean.
