I am past due for an emissions test and to pass the egr valve needs to be replaced. My question is how? I don't have any idea as how to get the the hose from the exhaust manifold off, I can't get a wrench around it to free it. Please tell me I don't have to loosen the motor mount and move the engine.

the tube comes off, but its a real pain. if you can measure the size of the nut with some calipers and then get a wrench that fits, youll be half way there. youre probably going to want to just remove the valve side of the tube because the manifold side is usually impossible. price out a new one at the ford dealer so you know how carefull you need to be.

If your trying to remove it from the manifold ,,remove the wheel and you can get to the large nut through the wheel well.

You need to cut the wrench in half and use a hammer and something else to lightly tap it. Its hex nut but its crimped (oblong) dont ask me why ford did this, but i had to do it on my my mustang and ranger. Now when I rebuilt my bros crown vic, I used an air chisel type thing from advanced auto parts and just basically hammered it loose.

The only real way to get it off is with injunuity.
This method applys to both ends of the copper(?) hose. The nuts dont come off its a clamp style nut where the ends of the hose are flared for tightening.

i got mine of with a normal wrench, you have to turn it over a couple times, but it's doable. maybe try a pair of channel locks, if you've got a good grip.

Spray the nut with PB Blaster when cold then take a long punch place it on the nut and hit with a hammer several times. Then the nut will loosen easier.
