I have a snow blower that ain't running right. After it gets warm, it will idle fine. But when you try to run the auger, the engine quits. The engine seems to start okay and idle okay. It's just when the engine is warm and when a load is applied. As I don't know much about carb'ed engines in general I am utterly confused. Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys.

I gas one that would die out like that too...was going to take it to a small engine repair shop but they were backlogged...so I took the cowl cover off and as I was doing that a bolt fell into my hand...it was from the exhaust tube...put it back and the snowblower worked perfect...

These motors need backpressure...so check for loose bolts et al...they vibrate themselves to pieces...

Oh...and change the oil...must be done every 25 hours or they blow up...

I forgot to add that it's a 2 stroke, don't have to worry about changing oil but I will check for loose parts though.

I do have to change the symptoms though, the thing stalls when warm, even when idling. I was fiddling around with it before and it kept stalling no matter what position the choke was in.

Check that the muffler is not plugged with carbon. Carbs are often a problem with two strokes, especially if it has one of them pump type carbs, ie. no float.

Some two strokes have a screen on the muffler for a spark arrestor that plugs up and snuffs out the engine. Kinda weird to worry about that moving snow though.

Gaskets and the diaphram in the carburator can dry out in storage. There should be numbers on the carb you can look up and get a kit for. An ultrasonic cleaner and carb cleaner will go a long ways to clean up the carb.

The ultrasonic cleaner also works wonders on gun parts and jewelry too :secret:

Clean the plug, fresh gas, not full tank, some sea foam or mystery oil.
Keeping it running is the trick if you don't want to bugger with the carb.

I have a generator that hadn't been run in, oh 10 years. The gas was rotten, smelled horrible. I drained it, sprayed some carb cleaner in the carb, got it to run on that then new gas with sea foam, been great since. I also treat with mystery oil to save the gas. It does work, but that is another story . . .

Either the muffler is plugged or the high speed jet in the carb is plugged, if it starts and runs the low speed jet is fine. My bet would be on the carb being dirty. Being a snow blower it's probably a float carb like a lawnmower, should be pretty straight forward

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll have to try something here soon when I get some time off.
