I can't remember what vehicle it was because it was too long ago, but at one time I had a front unit bearing assembly with the bearing apart, and it was a large, single row ball style radial bearing. I was amazed that it was ever engineered and approved for production that way, because even the worst engineer on the planet knows that a normal radial style bearing should never be used in an application where there is significant side-loading.may I suggest you look at a cut-away diagram of a typical sealed front wheel bearing. they definitely are designed for side & axial loads.
Ford Taurus' used a dual roller cartridge front bearing thru 1996, not sure what newer ones are.
