My credo
Have your pets spayed and neutered
I have 91 Ranger 65k, 3.0 v6 2wd.

The problem is that under the floor mat on the driver side the carpet has been wet/damp for quite awhile after driving.

Trouble shooted:
-no rubber trim leaks
-no rear window leaks
-No 3rd brake light leaks (fixed)
-No window leaks
-no heater core leak
-no spilled Slurpies
-no antifreeze smell
-only occurs on drivers side

After I drive, I lift the floor mat up, put my hand on the carpet and its very warm and wet (ok insert warm and wet jokes here ). I am suspecting due to heat from under the cab, which in turn heats the floor and carpet eventually causes condensation to occur as the cab cools in colder weather. I know this bc the windows fog after the truck sits and in the AM you can smell slight dampness.

  • Does anyone know if the exhaust runs under the driver side cab and could cause heat?
  • Has anyone else had this issue on the drivers side only?
  • Any other theories or places to look for water leakage?

Thanks

I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
I would check for rot in the cowl or lower A pillar behind the fender.

I've also had the access patch on the inside of the firewall leak and cause a wet driver's foot well.

I have the same problem on my passenger side, only after rain though- I'd find maybe a dustpan worth of water underneath the floormat. I've been told that those holes between the windshield and the hood, have no idea what they're called- anyway I've been told that if those fill with dirt and because of this water can get into your ventilation, and then drip onto the floor. I never fixed this, so I can't say for sure at all.

I know you said you checked for window leaks... but that was the source of a very large leak in my Explorer. I mean, a flood every time I went through the carwash, you could watch it drip down the e-brake pedal. I work next door to Safelite and had them look at it... windshield was missing some sealant in one spot, fixed it in 5 minutes.

Also, the cowl vent area does rust out... one area I found was right above the brake booster. Water will drip out of that pinch weld at the bottom of the cowl and down onto the firewall where there's a seam between two pieces of metal. You could run a bead of caulk along that seam and see if that helps.

This might help at least to see how your cowl is:

Another possible place to check for a leak is the rain gutters above the doors (the caulk in the center dries out and cracks).
