It maybe worth your time and effort to source a set of 4.10 axles from a similar year 4 cylinder ranger and try that before you really start digging.

Unbolting and rebolting in axles is easy.

Then, if you decide in the future you want a 4.0, the 4.10s will make it that much better.

The 3.0 makes 145hp and 165ftlbs, and the 4.0 makes 160hp and 220 ftlbs.

I do remember years ago these guy took a 3.0 and made a franken motor it made decent power. Thats when I decided I would make a ton of power by putting a v6 mustang throttle body on my 98's 3.0 lol it had a 10mm difference lol sooooo much power
