Just ask her to test drive the Ranger... she might actually like it. They really aren't your fathers truck anymore.

They actually have some nice ones in the 20 -25k range. Of course im looking at a 2wd, 4 door, and there are less of those. Not including the 3 "el cheepo" Rangers with steelies and whote paint that scream * parts delivery truck*, there a blue xlt woth the black out option, and a white xl. I didnt see any stx 2wd ones tho :(

Dealer a finds what you want at dealer b. Dealer a offers to trade dealer b something of similar value.

The dealer my parents got their Explorer at traded a dealer up north a new titanium Edge for a new XLT Explorer.

Dealer trade...

They find what you want at another Ford dealer and trade them something on their lot for it.

Also ask if they have a demo truck they can offer

I asked about a program Ranger, she said she didnt think it was ready to be sold yet, still got some demo-ing to do i guess. But it was a 4wd lariat that was just too much for me, not that I even saw it. I'm a simpler man, xlt or xl is enough for me

They dont have the room we need, Explorer would be best but wife hates them
This statement right here makes the decision for you.

If an Escape isn't big enough for you the Fusion and the Edge aren't either. The Fusion is smaller. The Edge has more interior volume, but a similar useable interior footprint.

Of the three cars you posted the Flex is the only one that is really bigger than an Escape. The Flex has interior room similar to an Explorer with a lower overall profile.

Just be aware that is the water pump on any FWD 3.5L vehicle goes you are looking at around $1500 for the repair. That water pump is behind the front cover, driven by the timing chain.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

I may have relevant experience:

My Daily driver is a 2016 Fusion Energi (PHEV). It's the nicest vehicle I've owned, and has given me 0 problems in the time I've owned it but it's still pretty new. I've put about 15k miles on it and dragged the lifetime fuel economy from mid 40s when I bought it to 86.6 mpg at hte end of this summer. I'm 6'1", wife is 5'10", and we have a rear facing baby seat and a Mastiff in the back seat with nobody being uncomfortable (except maybe the Mastiff on longer drives). It has no problem with 4 adults either, although 4 adults + luggage or something would be an issue due to the lack of trunk space.

My wife has a 2013 Santa Fe (full size, three row, V6, AWD) and is typically in the 24-25mpg range. Might get more favorable trade terms from a Hyundai dealer, and could get you in a slightly larger, more capable and fuel efficient vehicle that you're otherwise very familiar with. It's had a fuel injector and rear driveline coupler replaced under warranty but has been a good vehicle thus far.

Honestly, nothing is worth signing up for negative equity. That just means you're financing debt and digging an even deeper hole for yourself. I'd stick it out with what you've got, or try to sell the current vehicle privately to get more than what the dealer was offering for your trade. It might also be worth stopping some place like Carmax to see what they'd offer for your trade.
