1997 Ford Ranger Regular Cab Short Bed 2wd / 8.8 (3.73) axle

I am having a 347 built for my swap and want to know if a C6 transmission will fit in the transmission tunnel of a 1997 ranger

It will fit better with a body lift.

I suspect that it will be tight but will fit. It's wider on the bottom/pan area where it doesn't matter so much.

My credo
If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
You can build or buy a C4 that will handle a lot of power, fit easier, and have less parasitic drag.
Just don't try to use a Mustang II bell housing and convertor because the starter won't clear the oil pan, as I learned today.

I found a trans that was professionally built but the original buyer backed out of buying it. The builder will sell it to me for cost of parts. I was wondering if anyone has actually installed a C6 without a body lift. I know for sure that the other transmissions will fit but if I can get a performance trans at a fraction of the cost then I will. Just looking for a definate answer on wether or not a c6 will fit in a 1997 ranger, without installing a body lift, before I dish out money for something that won't fit.

I don't know, but it kinda looks like you didn't read the replies, I would just suggest a be careful with "at cost types" unless you're very sure of your relationship or knowledge of the person and their professional reputation.

If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical problem
As Denisefwd93 posted there is a lot of professional performance transmissions available. And most will not have what was stated. See this all the time with units bought on line or your outlaw $400 dollar performance rebuild from the neighborhood dude that puts a coat of farmers chrome on it and it is performance built. Just be careful and do some research on the individual. Very easy to do nowadays. Good luck!

C4 is going to fit the best.

I would take the overall plan for what you are going to do with the truck into perspective before buying a new transmission.

Cruise night special with some trips down the drag strip... C4

Daily driver with miles traveled down an interstate... AOD

Just my humble opinion...
