When my father and I start mowing the farm, we scalp the hell out of it. Stunting it's growth = less mowing. WIN. The idea of a lawn is ridiculous anyway. Getting rid of clover and dandelions like it's some kind of battle to be won is even more ridiculous. Especially when making dandelion wine is so easy, and it's delicious.

The idea of a lawn was started by the super wealthy in Europe. Having land that didn't have to produce crops/profit was a status symbol. Showing off your wealth.. I find lawn maintenance to be super annoying anyway, and a huge waste of my time, so to hell with trying to achieve golf course-like grass...

I like the idea of taller native grasses and the wildlife that thrive in it so much more. The only downside to that is you'll have a lot more snakes, mice, and possibly ticks. The clover also puts more wild game in my freezer, because the rabbits love it. We only mow the farm because we have to. The city can see it as an eyesore and if they come mow it you get charged big money. We live right on the edge of town. The city limits are literally 6ft behind my back door. I have deer in my yard nearly every night munching away at the clover.

My dream lawn would be 100% gravel though. Low maintenance!

I don't care about the clovers and dandylions, I just like having a reason to ride around on the mower for a few hours a week.

the grey-t escape
There’s been so much rain here that the ground doesn’t get a chance to be solid enough to drive over with the allis, I’ve had to push-mow the whole thing, takes 2 hours. The 2 times I was able to use my “big mower” I only spent 45 min mowing, most of that was all the close trimming the allis can’t do

My world is filled with stuff that needs to be fixed
On Saturday I tried to brush hog a field I have not been able to do so far without getting stuck in the mud. I wanted to get it done before this week of solid storms, but I could only do about 2/3rds - the rest was too wet.

Seems like it's always dry and dusty when I bush hog. Looks like Pig Pen from the Peanuts cartoons driving the tractor. But I always feel invincible on the Ford 6610 with an 8ft bush hog. That's a beast of a weed eater.

I always liked using the 1020 ‘Deere to bush hog with, It has a loader and more than once I’ve had to use it to push it backwards out of a stuck situation. Sure do get the barn swallows following you when the bugs are getting all stirred up.

Does your dumb well trimmed lawn have all these fun critters?
NOPE. I work hard at keeping critters out of my yard. y critters, I mean, the neighbors dog, vagabonds, and some kind of owl that sounds like a monkey. We do invite Humming Birds, moles and bees, tho. the moles actually help enrich the dirt, the girls like the "Hummey" birds, and we all know we need bees.

and Bats, we keep bats around for the mosquitoes

I need to bush hog the barn lot, been waiting for rain to wash the pollen off the brome grass.

I didn't notice that one year and thought I was going to die. Tractor fan blowing that in my face was allergy overload. I couldn't even speak normal for about a week after that.

This was my morning commute. It seemed relevant.

A Ranger, a lawnmower, and the lawnmower's homemade safety device.

My morning commute for the past few days I've been behind one of these during my 13 mile drive to get to the tollway

Browse Wylie's selection of used sprayers. -

They're just about wide enough and the roads narrow enough you just can't get past them. I swear my truck will just about fit under it. All the farm boys around here are on a mad dash to get something planted before it's entirely to late.

It dried up just enough to mow today, still had standing water in one part of the yard. Got it done though, then 3 hours later-more rain.

My new lawnmowers came today... though they don't seem to cut the grass like my other lawn mowers! Stupid things seem to want actual "food".
