I am getting a free 2.8/T5/7" for a project vehicle, and was wondering...how simple can you make it? Least amount of hoses and wires possible.

It's from an 84 or 85 ranger. It will be going into a motorcycle frame.

It's about as simple as it gets unless you slap an offenhauser intake and eldebrock or holley on there.

You need to use a non-feedback carburetor, if it still has one
For stand alone a manual choke cable maybe, but electric automatic choke would work as well

You want to use a Duraspark distributor and coil with an HEI module, basically a one, 12volt, wire spark system, with vacuum advance
Not sure "they" make a Coil On Cap HEI that fits the 2.8l but would make it much cleaner wiring wise

You should run a PCV Valve and breather hose to air cleaner housing(filtered air), it helps prevent valve cover and oil pan leaks

You can loop the heater hose unless you want to add a heater core, but don't block these ports off, loop them, its the by pass for the water pump

Outside of the vacuum advance and PCV Valve no other vacuum hoses are needed unless you need one for automatic transmission

I wouldn't get too fancy, a HEI dizzy is huge and probably won't fit with the firewall and air cleaner. I tried running a TFI coil and both the coil and ignition module would overheat in minutes. I got the better Duraspark canister coil at a parts store and changed the wiring around... and haven't looked at it for over a year.

Yes, Coil on Cap is bigger but no firewall to deal with and will be a custom air cleaner if its in a trike, assuming trike for V6, lol, but could be a bike
And the literally ONE 12v wire is super clean vs separate module and coil wiring

Yes, better coil if separate is always a good idea

Bingo. No clearance issues with firewall, and no heater core. Trike doesn't have/need that stuff.

I might rethink the heater core for Minnesota riding :)

Maybe loop a longer hose under the seat(s), heated seats, lol
