Im working on a 85 bronco 2 with 2.8l v6 and I have taken ofthe old timing chain and I am goingto replace it. But i know that both sprockets were probably moved in the process. I just need to know where the sprockets should be positioned when I put the new chain on so my timing will be right. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
I thought all 2.8l had timing gears, not chains.

Same. I thought all the 2.8s had gear driven cams. But if you have a chain driven cam the dots on the crank and cam gears point at each other.

If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
If you're replacing the chain the gears should be done, too. Never seen a 2.8 that wasn't gear to gear, though.

Doing things wrong, until I get it right.
Just unplug the battery for ten minutes, plug it back in and see if that resets the timing.

Sorry I've been dealing with "I.T." techs all day.

Sorry I've been dealing with "I.T." techs all day.

We had a C-MAX stop in with a radio that wouldn't turn off. The screen would shut down when the car did, but the middle dash speaker continued to play, the station and volume could not be adjusted, etc. They gave it to the most junior tech who quickly came and asked me where the radio fuse was. I helped him look it up and find it, we pulled it, radio turned off completely. Just for kicks I put the fuse back in to see if it would start working correctly. It did. He asked how I knew that it would work. I pointed to the "Microsoft" on the Sync badge and just said "Turn it off, turn it on again.

"S" is probably a logo not a timing mark, look for small DOT

Yes, they should face each other
Crank dot at 12:00, Cam dot at 6:00

After chain is on rotate engine so Cam dot is back at 6:00, this makes sure no valves hit the pistons
