I saw an 86-88 Ranger Super yesterday while treking home in that hideous traffic. I slowed to get a look as I do like it's some curvy lady passing by, but the Rangers won't give you any sort of look or negative response. Anyway I noticed the rear windows were open, much like say back windows on a minivan or you might see on older Mazdas and such. I don't recall EVER seeing these on a Ranger. Were there any on the older models and I need to find a swap, or is that an aftermarket thing?

It’s a factory thing though not very common. I suspect it might have been a limited run thing since it is so rare to see. I wouldn’t mind doing the conversion myself.

If that's the case, do you know what the proper name is for them so I can start hunting some down?

I haven’t had any luck myself. LMC Truck doesn’t list them either.

My credo
I don't count birthday's anymore...just happy to be looking down at the ground instead of looking up
It was called a "quarter glass" and there were two types, "stationary and moveable. Your probably looking for the moveable.

It was a factory thing, but rare to see, AFAIK it is a bolt on mod, once you have the movable pieces.

I have run across a few, and thought about doing it, but a post by AllanD describing how the hinges and latches tend to wear out making them not seal right, and the fact that I'd almost never open them, made me decide it was not worth doing, at least for me.

My '96 has them. I think they're more rare on the earlier models.

I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
Out of the 4 supercabs I've owned, I know at least 3 of them had moveable quarter glass. My 89 parts truck, my 90 daily driver, and my 89 plow truck. I don't think my 01 did.

This is probably true. In general I run across more 84-92 and 98+ Rangers in the yards, but I have found a higher percentage of the movable quarters on 93+ trucks. Although most of the 1st and 2nd gens in the yard I have been going to are regular cabs, so no quarter glass.

Now I do beleive that year doesn't matter much on any of the rear glass. I know I put a back glass from an 01 in my 87 and it fit perfectly. So if the OP finds a later truck with the movable sides they should still fit fine.

Funny, because both of the supercabs I've had in the last few years have them. Here in central Texas with no A/C they are always open on mine.

I've never had one with them and I've had quite a few Rangers. I want them kind of just as the option or extra feature... but I wouldn't use them often. I tend to use AC and as the heat rears back to punch us here in TX, my AC will get all the love.

Don't wait till it's broken to fix things
Google search gives me many threads on different forms of people wanting to do this. Has anybody found anyone that has done this, and photographs or in description of How It's done? It seems that this is just a pipe dream for lots of Ford Ranger fans, and it's never been really done. Although a couple of threads mentioned "I know somebody that has done it." One forum even has a user saying only tgat he did such a conversation, but then he never responds again. Most likely a troll.
