Still, that is a lot if driving. Are you a door to door salesman or something? Three oil changes in 8 months. You gotta be living in that truck!

I probably would have 5-6 oil changes on that truck... I still believe in 3k oil changes though.

I’m basing it off oil changes being done at the recommended intervals.

I change mine every spring and fall. So I doubt I hit that mileage mark. Since I use time, I honestly have no idea what mileage I’m changing the oil at.

In my ranger I do every 6 months. It doesn't get driven much and I grew up on 3k or 6 months whichever is first. So sometimes my ranger is done at like 1,000 miles. But its 100% city driven with lots of idle time which is considered "severe service". An engine driven on the highway sees way less work than one in stop and go traffic and heavy idle time... I sent my oil to Blackstone twice and they said wear was above my mileage average both times.

I do my feista which has a turbo every 3k and that is less than every six months. First turbo I ever owned though and know the turbo gets engine oil. So I'm leery of blowing up a turbo. Never sent that oil to Blackstone because honestly it's going to a crusher when the warranty is over. Unlike my ranger which I will own forever.

Thanks for the oil procedure info. Media hyped it up to sound worse. I'm old school and do first oil change around 1000 and every 4000 afterwards. In regards to coolant, I work at a farm equipment dealership and coolant with OAT only has to be changed every 4000 engine hours. Factor in 4000 hours at avg vehicle speed of 35 mph and you are looking at around 140,000 miles. Wouldn't call that life time for every vehicle.

Yes, I a door to door salesman:rolleyes:, lol

As I said, its only 2 oil changes, one at dealer one by me. 30 miles to work, so 60 a day,,that and a few trips add up. I also commute quite a bit on my motorbike this time of year too, otherwise it would be more, so Id just say our ideas of a lot of miles are a bit different.

It was meant to be friendly banter.

Yes, 60 miles a day for work is a lot to most people. So is the 15,600 miles annually for going to and from work with a personal vehicle. But hey more power to you in doing those kind of miles for work. That takes dedication most aren’t willing to invest.

And with this. I’ll just let you be since I’m obviously irritating you.

My credo
"220, 221, whatever it takes."
They changed that. No mention of a break in oil change in the 2019 manual.
Cars haven't had break-in oil changes for a long time. My system on new cars is to do the first oil change at 2500 miles with regular oil, then at 5000 and every 5000 after that with synthetic. Put a crap-ton of miles on many of them and never had an engine problem.

I'm big on changing fluids. My last Ranger and two Sport Tracs, all purchased new, I changed the t-case and rear axle at 30,000 and the lube looked like tar since most of the wear comes early. 60,000 a little better, by 90,000 the lube in both drained out like new. Front axle gets done at Valvoline every 50,000 since it's basically impossible to do yourself. Coolant I change every 50,000.

If the front axle is anything like the one on the older Rangers with the Dana 35 SLA, it’s gonna get drilled and tapped with a drain plug on the bottom once it’s out of warranty.

I don’t want to be dropping an axle just to do an oil change any more than I have to. Stupid setup.

Here's the Oil Change Procedure from Ford's Shop Manual. Sure, it's not as easy as my '69 Camaro.... but it for sure isn't that big of a deal. Not a big deal at all if you rotate tires when you do your oil change.

On my '02 Tacoma I rotated the tires every 4,000 miles and change the oil every 8,000 miles. No worries. 177,000 miles of trouble free service.

My 2019 Ranger only has 1,000 miles on it, oil life monitor says 93% oil life remaining. I'll probably do the first oil change at 4,000 so that should match up nicely with my 4000/8000 schedule.

Curious what you other folks are doing on your Ecoboost motors.. following the oil life system, or doing your own thing?

Sounds like a kooky half thought out engine swap...

I doubt many new car buyers change their own oil though.
LOL! Oil? What's that?

My sister had my 98 Ranger for four years. Drove it 40,000+ miles. Never changed the oil once. And to this day it still runs freakin awesome. Go figure!

And it might be fake news written by a no-name outfit too.
Not to mention the editors note states Ford told them the tire doesn't have to come off. Also am I the only one who thinks this write up was lazy and really didn't explain anything, waste of of time

Im surprised it didn't lock up my 98 with the 3.0 used a quart every 2500 miles.
