I have a 2007 Ranger 4x4, 4.0L, automatic. The other day it started; the truck shifts fine from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd but then stays there. The problem happens intermittently. I can drive the truck for 10 mile without an issue but then all of a sudden it acts up. If I turn off the truck and restart it the problem goes away for a little bit but comes back. The O/D OFF light flashes once it starts. Could this be a solenoid issue? Anyone got any input? Thanks!

Scan the truck and get the code. The od light flashing is the transmission equivalent of a check engine light.

I tried but it says "No DTC's found"! My scanner may not look for tranny codes either. It only cost $100! The O/D Off light blinks at a constant rate also.

Not all scanners read trans codes, and it could be a pending code not active code. Take it somewhere that checks for free like aamco. Dont let them do anything but scan it.

There's your problem.

If you had the light on, shut it off, and then tried to read the codes it may not have stored.

Many transmission codes are very conditional and don't set to memory right away. Hook your code reader up, go for a drive, and once the light comes on hit the test button.
