Ok, since this thread seems to have migrated into the full size truck that we would buy if we could......

1966 F-100. Base model with no padding, vinyl bench, no radio, three on the tree, inline 6. I want it in red, with white above the body crease, and a red roof.

ok, I’ll play, ‘77 F250, ranger package, 400 with the creeper1st 4-speed manual. 4wd with 3.73’s, dual tanks. two-tone green.

couldnt afford the fuel to feed it these days, but we are dreaming here.

I would love to have an early to mid 70’s crew cab Highboy. Probably will never have one but if one is to dream, that is what mine would be.

The new F150 has a V6 as standard.

25-30k will buy you a really, really really to nice to use older truck and 10k will buy you a nice older truck.

I wouldnt spend 40k on either the 84 or a new one. But given the choices at hand id pry pick the 84.

That being said id rather buy one of the clean late 70's 4wds you find online for mid to high 20's. Preferably with a 400 and a 4sp.

On the 84, my first thought is would one have to go through and replace most if not all the seals?

Neither of those is the right truck for you, Rusty. THIS is the truck you want:

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

I agree. A survivor wouldn’t make a good daily driver for long. I would rather spend that kind of money on a completely rebuild one vs a survivor.

I disagree with that. Ive DD'ed many survivor trucks without much issue.

40 yr old factory stuff put togther in a factory makes me way less nervous then a truck that should have the factory blue oval replaced with an LMC logo.

In my experience a machine that is not used at all will have way more issues then one that gets beat on every day.
I would expect that truck to to have every piece plastic, rubber, and fabric cracking and falling apart within a couple years of be commissioned as a daily driver.

I would much rather get something that has 250k miles on it then that.

I would expect something that’s been completely restored to have all the rubber and gaskets new. Not having to worry about the heater hose disintegrating when you look at it.

My ranger, and my 77 are both full of original hoses and fabrics. Havent had many issues. Lower hose on ranger popped a pinhole leak at one point and the 77 blew an upper radiator hose.

To be fair i do run stuff untill it completly blows. But im that way with about everything on a vehicle, toy, appliance, or whatever. Not really a "that probably should be replaced" guy...im a " F*** that things f***** i better change it" guy.

Im also not anal about fluid leaks

Neither of your trucks have been sitting unused in a warehouse for 40 years.

Like I said before, stuff that is used regularly tends to last much longer then not used. Especially rubber and gaskets. They tend to get brittle when not exercised regularly.
