Hi from Colorado Springs, a co-worker is moving away and is giving me his Ranger (He named it Bill). It is an 89 v-6 4x4. I'm not sure of the engine size. I have not taken possession of it nor have I seen it, so I only have the one picture. He says it needs a battery, exhaust, side window (recently vandalized), fuel gauge sending unit and a repair that prevents causes it to shut down after about 10 minutes of driving. He thinks it's the in-tank fuel pump. He has a new fuel pump and sending unit with it to install. My adult son needs a vehicle and we hope to get it working. Right now, I do not plan on a restoration, but we'll see. I look forward to sharing our adventure and learning from you all as well.

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Welcome! Sounds like a good deal.

Welcome to TRS.
I had a ranger given to me. Where I am it needed a salvage inspection. After all was said and done, it cost me $2,000, about what it was worth. A year later the trans went, that was another $2,500, but I'd already sunk 2 into it. It did last me for a few years.
Hope your ranger does you better.

Good lookin Ranger! Should be a 2.9, but may be a 4.0. If you have the 2.9, you literally have the best Ranger setup out there. Fo' free. ??

I thought some had a 2.8 from some of the reading I was doing. If the only v-6's were the 2.9 and 4.0, then this is the 2.9. Cool beans.

I got the truck tonight and was able to drive it home without issue. The previous owner ran afoul of his homeowner's association and had to move it, so he bought a brand new battery. This was the first start in about a year. It has a fair amount of lifter noise. Is this common? Are there any recommendations? In the past, I have used Rislone or Marvel Mystery oil with some success to quiet lifters. The frame is solid, but the driver's side of the body has significant rust. I'm thinking of replacing the bed due to the rust. The interior is real nice. The odometer says 24,000 miles. I'm sure it's rolled over at least once. And
is the 2.9. It also will need tires. This is going to be fun. Here are some pictures.

Those are my favorite wheels on the 1st gen Rangers. I picked some up for mine at the beginning of the year. Also there's a video on YouTube that shows a guy running seafoam products through his 2.9 Ranger and the result speaks for itself. Check it out if you get the time it's a very thorough video

Yeah, I like the wheels. It's amazing how nice they make this rusty truck look. I'll take a look for that video. Thanks.

My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
last of the man trucks. could be the very last if it is an 89.
