I had a 2009 Ford Ranger FX4 before with a 4.0 L SOHC motor. I totalled it last winter and got a replacement this month.

The thing that I’ve been wondering is, I remember my old truck having that plastic (air intake, I believe) that says “4.0 SOHC” on it but the new one just has a metal part on top. I think it has an engine block heater, would that make the difference I’ve described? We’re there two different versions of this motor? What’s the deal?

That metal part is prolly the throttle body.

Thats whats under the cover.

Your new one is pry missing it.

I took another look at it and you're exactly right. For some reason, I was misremembering and thought there was more diference than there actually was.

I went to a wrecker and got a new cover and it looks perfect now.

Now I just need the levelling kit and bigger tires....

:D Thanks guys!
