So I need to put in a new ignition cylinder with a new key because I am a loser. I lost my keys. Of course the thing has PATS security, so how do I go this?
Thanks guys!

Ford may be able to get a key for you from their records of the vin. A locksmith may be able to simply make one from the existing lock. Once you have two keys cut to fit that have PATS chips, you can program them yourself using Forscan.

Ford make be able to cut you 2 new keys from the VIN Code, bring registration and ID with you, they ask sometimes

But you still need the new keys added to the PATS memory, so you can start the engine

Mobile locksmiths can do that, or you can tow it to Ford or a Locksmith

Yes you can get Forscan software and add the new keys yourself

Thanks. I had a mobile locksmith come out and make me two new transponder keys. Cost me $200 but it's done but that's the expertise of knowing. What I've seen a couple people do on youtube is mount one of the transponder keys firmly inside the steering column next to the ignition and use spare keys from now on.

If only adding keys with a scan tool you don't need two, you only need one.

Keys can be added individually, but a minimum of two must be programmed or the PATS system won't enable, so two keys are only needed if you are clearing the keys.

I usually clear all keys and reprogram them when buying a used car, just to be safe. With a good scanner you can also get in and see how many keys are programmed to the car and compare that to the number you have. So you buy a car that says there are 3, but you only have 1, you know two are in the wind.

Interesting. I don't remember having the option to add without clearing in Forscan, but I wasn't really looking for that ability.

If you did this the spare keys must NOT BE transponder keys, just regular all metal keys

Two transponder keys sending out their unique numbers at the same time, can cause a garbled message to PATS, so No Start

Since you have two "working keys" now you can add a 3rd or 4th PATS key yourself, just need them cut to match the lock

If you ever just have one key, you can have that key "cloned" so you have a spare, "blank" PATS keys are available, a locksmith can Read working PATS key's number and then Write its number to a blank transponder key, so Clone the working key, less expensive option to have a spare working PATS key
But doesn't count as "2nd working key" since PATS sees both keys as the same key not two different keys

To add more confusion, if you have cloned key you cannot use those keys to add a third without a scanner as the pcm sees them as one single key.

I haven't programmed keys with ForScan yet. The option may not be there, but it is in IDS, which is the program that ForScan is meant to emulate.

But why would you need to add a key?

Just get another Clone :)
