I've looked on the web and can't find an answer but I'm sure someone on here knows. What oil should be used in the transaxle and where is the level plug and what does it look like.

Hydro or geardrive?

Looks like hydro's take Torq-Gard 30wt (JD part # TY26790)

Go here: http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.PrintPageServlet?printParams=Illustration,+Keylines

Search for 111, and go to "HYDROSTATIC TRANSMISSION (111H AND 112L)" and it has a picture of a dipstick apperatus.

Despite multiple views of the geardrive I don't see a plug or a description of what oil it takes. You might give your dealer a call, they usually know things like that. I have a book at work that might have what oil it takes if nobody gets anything to you between now and then.

Thanks for the reply, It's a geardrive. I'll try giving the dealer a call, but the language barrier often makes descriptions difficult. I'll have another look at it tomorrow and if I find out anything I'll post it. Any further help would also be appreciated.

Book just said "see owners manual" :annoyed: So while I had my dealer on the phone ordering parts I asked.

3/4 qt Hy-Gard, standard issue John Deere transmission oil. Just about every tractor from at least the 60's takes a couple gallons of it... if they don't have it they are not a dealer. :icon_thumby:

Not sure what the size of JD my good buddy had but maybe a 165. Think he had to use a turkey baster to suck the oil out. He might have had the hydro drive, memory bad thing to lose.
