Pushing in the clutch is a whole lot eaiser then pulling a trans. My '03 Sunfire probably did the same thing. I never had an issue shifting without the clutch. BUT, I usually shifted well above 2000 RPM. Usually more like around 3000. I found that the trick was to go into neutral, let the RPMs drop 500 RPM, and then hit the next gear. USUALLY, it went in like butter, but if my timing was off a bit, it resulted in anywhere between a hard shift, and grinding into gear.
Except that you have to drop the transmission to change the clutch. And, if you do it right, it's *not* hard on the transmission.Pushing in the clutch is a whole lot eaiser then pulling a trans.
