Me and my boyfriend are trying to find solutions. The truck ran once rough when we changed the fuel filter, but it idles at 3,000. Now it will start, but when you’re not on the gas it dies out. The intake is also backfiring. A friend told us we might need a new intake manifold. We’re gonna replace that and see if that fixes it, but I’m just not sure what else it could be if it isn’t that. Any suggestions?

Sounds like an idle air control except for the backfiring.

The backfiring indicates a timing issue...2.3s are known to break/stretch timing belts. That would be the first avenue i would explore.

We’ll try that too, thank you so much!

From what you describe... sounds like a vacuum leak to me. How did you check? Try using propane or even spray a little carb cleaner in the throttle body to see if it will run.

Scratch that, it does have a vacuum leak! I misheard my boyfriend.
