A buddy of mine put 100/80w bulbs on his '93... It seemed to handle it fine (they were good & bright, not yellowish), though about 5 years later one of the contacts I recall burnt inside the headlight connector. I could not tell if it was from overloading or maybe it just wasn't seated on all the way or dirty (I've seen the same happen with DOT bulbs too). We replaced the connector, it's been fine since (about 10 years now).
As for LEDs, not only is the focus often wrong, the light output also tends to be a glaring bluish color. ×2, stay away. (4000°K HID would be the way to go if there's no concerns over radio interference, though you also will still likely have the problems with focus (and pissing off others) if you don't also change your stock housings for ones designed for HID bulbs)
Another option might be to simply add on a pair of auxiliary driving lights. Using a relay, they can be tied into the high-beam circuit to come on with the brights if desired.
