Headliner, supercab, all day job??

Went on a spending spree I got my headliner fabric! Cost me a whole $20 at joanns ?
It looks to be a rather time-consuming job, pulling all the panels and trim.
I've done headliners with my son on smaller vehicles, If y'all know any shortcuts for job let me know! They make replacement headliners but oh my are they expensive!

It's tuff if you haven't done it. I thought I was going to have to remove one of the doors to get the old headliner out. Going to get a pro to put mine back together.

I finally put mine back in, pulled it out not long after getting the truck due to the fabric being mostly gone, I kind of liked the bare steel look too. After a year & half I decided to put the panel back in, didn’t really want to mess with fabric so I’ve sprayed it with grey flex-seal. Didn’t turn out quite like I envisioned but it’s not too bad. I did have a couple of issues with the plastic fasteners that push-through and am missing some. Also dome light cover won’t snap back up in place so I just have bare bulbs. ( was that way anyhow the whole time headliner was out ) it probably took a hour or two to get it all apart (and I had put the trim back after because I never planned on having the headliner back in) and I’d say a couple of hours putting it all back together again. Mine is a regular cab so you do have a bigger panel and more trim/fasteners to deal with. If you’re having it out anyways and have ever thought about cab roof lights, this is a good time for that too. (I got mine through harbor freight, kit was 15 bucks I think) too bad your super cab doesn’t have the opening back half doors, that would make the job a lot easier.

Thank you for the replies they are helpful! if you have any idea of what type of clips and fasteners are used that would help a lot I was looking on O'Reilly they have quite a list,. We will be pulling the seats out also. I have leather seats from a Eddie Bauer Explorer to replace them,

I would think that the headliner got loaded through the windshield opening prior to the windshield install at the factory. I've never done one but I would think taking the windshield out would be the easiest perhaps the only way to do an extended cab 2 door. Someone with a factory set of manuals should be able to say for sure.

Surely you could get it out if you removed the front seats?

To drop it you should only need to remove the upper ring of trim work, and maybe a few screws from the quarter trims. You should be able to bring it down without removing the quarter trims completely. I don't know about the clips that hold the 93+ head liners in, but on mine it is just some T pins that hold it up in the back and sides, you rotate them in the hole 90* and they release the headliner.


To remove the head liner without removing any glass lay both front seats back as far as they go. It can then be laid down on them and rotated out the door. It fits on a funky angle.

If you really want to have fun getting a head liner out, do the 2012+ Fusions. Those come out the front door. Gotta remove the passenger seat.

When I planned keeping my 94... it had a bad headliner and a cracked windshield. I was going to have the headliner ready to come out and a replacement waiting to go in. When they removed the windshield... I figured I needed less then 2 minutes to slide out the old one and slide in the new one. Surely the glass man would grant me the 2 minutes... for an ice cold Coca-Cola from the garage fridge.

While it appears to be possible... I just can't visualize it with the seat(s) in place.

It's not that hard. If I had any need to take my trim or headliner out, or if I could open my doors the whole way I'd make a video to show you.

Oh... I am in no way questioning you. That's why I said it appears to be possible. I personally can't see it.

If Ranger headliners remained true to form though the 06 model year... I will have to cross this bridge in a few years. Hopefully it will need a new windshield when I do it.

Well as mentioned when we do get around to it, which may be a while, the seats will be out,. I don't think it would go through the windshield opening without the edges being scrubbed or broken because the windshield opening is smaller and may not allow enough tilt of the headliner board to go through the opening,

Surprisingly the windshield on this truck doesn't seem to have any problem maybe it was once replaced,, I'm sure this is a very difficult job,. The trim panels around the back of the extended cab seem to go all the way to the headliner which means pulling the speakers the seatbelts pretty much everything but I'm good at that and I'm patient,

To remove the quarter trims you do need to unbolt the seatbelts at the floor. The speakers are attached to the body, not the trim work, and the speaker grill is not attached to the body at all, IIRC, so that can all be left alone.

I know when I removed the headliner from my old cab it came out the back window, which is not hard to R&R by the way, certainly much easier than the windshield.

Back window ...interesting I will keep all this in mind!
SinceI had the spring shackles flipped down like they're supposed to be, it rides like a newish truck! It's also very quiet inside the cab for something so old.
