Rusty never said why he was going on hiatus, only that he was. No mention of anticipated return date either.

You need three things... spark fuel and compression. Also... a vacuum leak will allow MORE air in creating an abundance of air into the cylinders. On fuel injected engines... a vacuum leak will typically cause an elevated idle speed.

To the OP... have you put a fuel pressure gauge on this thing?
Yes I did. Installed an aftermarket inline fuel regulator and gauge on the incoming fuel line getting 40 psi key on than 36/38 psi at idle.

I should have just put a 302 in it like everyone here has done. I'm kicking myself for putting all the parts I have into it. It's just such a dam good looking truck. Love the first gen body style

the reason its a vacuum leak is simple : you have multiple cylinders delivering fuel, if you had a fuel pump clog issue it wouldnt even start . Check your large vacuum hoses and the resevoir , check your brake booster to pvc valve, check fhe pvc valve check fhe purge valve regulator and vacuum hoses those can kill an engine and leave you without brakes

The truck is running and driving! Yesterday when I tried to move the truck one of the leads on the high pressure fuel pump came unplugged. Now all I have to do is trace all the wires for the high pressure fuel pump and find out why it's losing power to the plug intermittently. Than I can remove my jumper to the high pressure pump.

Well that would certainly cause low fuel pressure... glad you found the fault.

i guarantee its a vacuum leak.
Sure seemed like a fuel issue to me.

But maybe the poor connection at the fuel pump was your vacuum leak. Stranger things have happened!

We don't always get it right...

A vacuum leak on these will give you a high erratic idle.

Just take your time and make a good repair so you aren't messing with the same thing again.
