Wired in a tach into my 85 Ranger, tapped into the dark green-yellow striped wire on ignition coil as I saw on forum before. The tach works,, kind of,, it is reading probably double the real output. Any ideas why that might be ? Appreciate the help guys

There were two signal posts on that tach. One for 4-cyl, one for 6. You are probably on the wrong one.

Well your first post implied that you were using a factory unit.

You may have a faulty unit. Flip the switch to 8 and see what it does.
