Can I swap in a 97 4.0 OHV into my 96 ranger with 4.0. Will the 96 heads work on the 97.I am wanting the 8 bolt crank over the 6 bolt. Have broken 3 flex plates on the 96 4.0. Engine is out of the truck now. Looking to order a new short block and will use all the 96 4.0 parts for the new block. Reason I asked about the head swap.

Replace your flex plate spacer. It is a $20 part and probably the cause of your repeated broken flex plates.

They wear out and can let the flex plate ride off center, which will crack them because they are the weakest link.
