I followed the advice in this article from the how-to section titled "Building a front driveshaft for a 1998+ Ford Ranger" Problem is that the bolts included in the transfer case adapter(Double Cardan CV Flange Yoke N2-83-288X by NEAPCO) do not want to go in and I got no bolts from the JY with my Explorer driveshaft. Does anyone know the thread sizes on these bolts off hand? I'm guessing 8mm X1.25 but if anyone knows for sure it would be appreciated!

I can't tell you the thread pitch or length that I used, but I do know that I had to end up using allen head cap "screws" on mine due to clearances when installing the bolts and tightening them. Same Neapco adapter.. Using them shouldn't be a problem as far as strength. I do remember reading another member's posts about having to use the same style of bolts..

I used some generic hex head bolts, they are a real pain to get in and out.

I think they have a pretty fine thread. Maybe an 8x1.

Yup, I'm well aware of the fitment issues and using socket head bolts. Their strength is not in question one bit as we use them at work a great deal. I'm confident it's metric, so it's down to between 8X1.25 and 8X1.0? When I am elected president my office of standardization shall be tasked with reducing confusion on things such as bolt thread, cross tip screws(phillips, reed prince, jic, etc) and other such nonsense!

I'll vote for you if you establish a Ministry of Silly Walks.

Maybe, but I'd prefer to outlaw metric! We put a man on the moon using SAE so I think that says a lot!

But of course! After all, we're not barbarians!

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
I prefer metric. The math is easier. But, more importantly, you need to stop this crap about setting clocks ahead or back an hour. Just pick a time and stick with it.

I seem to recall mine had pretty fine threads. Try the M8x1.0

The metric system is far less confusing for the masses. Trust me on this. I've worked in various fields where using the metric systme would have eliminated lots of confusion for numerous employees. Not to mention the fact that a HUGE part of the world uses the metric system...

It's publicly available information. Why is it weird knowing info that the rest of the population also has access to? lol

It seems far more weird knowing a forum member's real name after addressing them by their screen name for years..

Metric is far superior. I'm OK with miles, gallons, etc, but for bolt sizes and thread pitch metric is better.

Finding sizes in metric is just counting. Finding sizes in SAE requires long division.

x2 im metric all the way

0c water freezes - makes perfect sense
100c water boils - makes perfect sense
50c is half way between hot and cold - i figured that out very easily

32f water freezes ??
212f water boils ??
122 is half way

what the hell?

8 oz in a cup
2 cups in a pint
2 pints in a quart
4 quarts in a gallon
55 gallons in a drum

how many oz in a drum? 8 x 2 x 2 x 4 x 55 == 7,040

if it were metric based
10 oz in a cup
10 cups in a pint
10 pints in a quart
10 quarts in a gallon
10 gallons in a drum

how many oz in a theoretical metric drum? dont even need a calculator its simple enough 10 with 5 zeros

Thanks for the offer but it's kinda a custom thing now so the factory length bolts won't work. I really do appreciate your offer!

SAE I can identify size and NF or NC just by a glance, Metric, not so much.

I can ID both easily. I can only call out the metric size correctly. I can reach down and grab the socket off the SAE rail every time, but I don't know what numbers are on it.
