2005 Ranger 2 door. Sometimes the dome light comes on when I open the driver side door and sometimes it doesn't. So today I grab my WD 40 so I can lube the plunger switch on the door jamb. I cannot find one. Where or what causes the interior light to come on when you open the door?

It's on the door itself not on the door jamb. Its attached to the latch inside the door.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

There's another great idea from Ford's "Department of Making things more Difficult for mechanics".

(I've got to work on that name so it has a cool acronym - maybe Department Of Dumb - DOD)

I think the reason was because theres no way to use an old fashion door jamb switch on the suicide door cabs, and there was no point using a seperate style switch on the regular cabs. But yea... it's a pain to replace.

That may be a valid theory for why the Rangers have that style. Now explain the entire rest of Ford's lineup.

It's 1 less part to install on the assembly line. Someone had to install the pin switch and someone else installed the latch...
now one person does both jobs at the same time.
One less person mean, 1 less salary, 1 less family medical insurance, 1 less pension... look at all the money that just saved Ford.

If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
We used to see problems with door hinges squeaking and switched sticking on vehicles maintained by Jiffy lube. Our techs would lube the door hinges and latches during services. Spray the door latches and open and shut the door several times and you'll probably be all set. I like Cyclo Breakaway best.

Yeah, like mentioned above, it's part of the latch. So, you'll need to pull the door card and plastic vapor seal to get at it. I hope you can get it to work with a spray. Access isn't that great from what I remember when I replaced the passenger door on my 1998.
