Do you lose abs when switching to a locker

Picked up a locker on the cheap for my b2 just curious if I will be able to keep my abs

You'll be fine. The brakes only have to "channels", front and rear. It doesn't care what differential you have. You should only have rear abs anyway IIRC.

The sensor is in the top of the housing, reading the ring gear. The differential is after the gears in terms of power flow.

Not at all.

Your biggest concern will be the drivability. Short wheelbase and lockers can get scary on the street.

Just make sure the shop replaces your ABS tone ring if you're putting in a full-carrier locker (I had a shop do a Detroit Locker on my Ranger many years ago and they failed to put the ring back in, so of course no ABS, but no light either... I guess no input at all to the sensor isn't something the ABS system monitors for lol)

Nope. Those early systems were super basic. To that system no signal from the rear sensor just looks like the car sitting still because there are no front sensors.

Will that ring fit on a Detroit locker? It doesn't look like it will the original carrier is machined for it the Detroit isn't?

My Detroit was infact machined for it, yes. Why they didn't reinstall it I don't know (and is why I do my own work as much as possible).
I do have the ring back in it now.

These days I can't imagine a locker made for a common axle like the 8.8" (or even a 7.5") not being machined for the ABS ring (especially now that most vehicles use that same ring to sense vehicle speed for the speedometer and transmission shift points).

Sounds like you're screwed then (must be a real old unit).

Like Urbanredneck said, it's not really that big of a deal, I wouldn't worry about it (no ABS isn't something that'll make or break your truck's handling or light your dash all up... had your BII been one or two years older it wouldn't have had ABS anyway).

I see the locker came out of a 7.5 that was under a mustang I basically got the locker for free all I had to Do was haul off the housing.
