Howdy all. I am currently swapping a Dana 44 TTB and 1356 T-case into my 1988 Ranger single cab short box.
I've run into an issue where the output of the T case and the pinion on the front diff are very close to the drivers side frame rail, and the drive shaft would hit the frame rail and fuel pump/filter brackets. Has anyone else done a similar swap and encountered this issue? If so what were your solutions. I've considered clearancing the frame and relocating the fuel system parts, but I am hoping there is a simpler solution.

This ranger also has a 5.0 and M5OD-R2 out of an F150.

Thanks.

I would assume it must have something to do with the 1356 t-case or it's placement. I have a D44 TTB under mine and I've not run into that issue (started out with the 1354, and then went to an Atlas II, no issue either way).

Got any pics?

My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
when full width ttb and factory ride height with the 56...even clocked down you sometimes have to run a smaller od shaft depending on arm setup ect.. even with good bumps its tight. but the setups i have worked with had all of that factory filter crap long gone.

Here’s a few pics of the t case and front diff, I think I’m going to have to relocate the fuel system parts. Could I just switch the in tank pump with a high pressure unit and run new lines? Would I have to notch/clearance the frame? The truck is on stock springs and is very low right now. Would I have to extend my bumpstops? The trans crossmember could be modified for driveshaft clearance.

Thanks.

I didn't do it myself, the b2 I bought had a high-pressure pump in the stock tank. Apparently the pump came from a mustang. The tank pump opening had been slightly modified to fit the pump.

Kemso 340 pump fits a Ranger sending unit (sorta, but it fits; it's what I'm running). Allows you to delete rail pump.

What about going to a smaller t-case?

I would rather do that than notch the frame.

Agreed. I seem to recall someone fitting a NP208 much more easily, though I can't swear to it (not sure where it was I read it). Something to look into anyway.

I have a 1354 manual shift from the original drive line however it’s bolt pattern is different from the full-size tailhousing on the m5od. A new tcase is a bit out of budget right now so I think i’ll run in 2wd for now until I can afford an NP case or figure out how to make the 1356 work.
Thanks.

A Jeep NP208 is a lot smaller than a Ford NP208, you can mix and with a Ford one to get a Ford speedo drive.

Bobby has done it.

A NP205 is about the same size as a factory t-case.

Doesn't a Jeep case have a smaller input spline size than the Ford case? A fullsize Ford should be 31 spline, I thought the Jeep was like 23 spline or something really tiny.

I've got a fixed output 208 from a bronco sitting in the garage. It is huge compared to the 205. Is the Jeep version of the 208 any shorter?
