My truck takes a size 58r or 59 battery. Both of these come with 550-590 cca. I looked at different battery size charts and size 34, and 27 are pretty close in size (same post arrangement) to the 58/59 but they come with 710-725 cca.

Silly questioj but is there any reason not to just buy a 34 or 27 series?

Might cost more. Do you need more CCA down there?

Watch the height too, 58 is 6-7/8", 59 is 7-3/4", 27 is 8-7/8" and 34 is 7-3/4" high.

Width is is also narrower on the 27 and 37 so if you have the wedge type hold down it might not secure the battery.

I swapped in a bricknose F-series battery tray and squeaked a 65 in my truck (850CCA and 7-5/8" high) which is OEM for later fullsize trucks. Same that is in my 5.4 F-150.

Measurements are from my Interstate book.

A lot of the time there are minor dimensional differences when fitting them to the battery tray, and often they have a different hold-down method. I've always modified my battery boxes to hold the largest batteries I could fit. My 2001 has a huge battery in it now, after trimming the battery tray to be a little flatter.

Theres plenty of room with my current 59 series battery (hood wise) which is 7.5" tall.... but we do get -20 degree winters so 580 Amps gets pretty slow sometimes. I definitely think I could benefit from an extra 100+ cca.

I think I put a group 34 AGM battery in my '86. At least that's the number that comes to mind right now. As long as it fits I don't see any issues.

Depending on where you buy the battery at... it may not be covered under warranty if you use it in something it's not supposed to be in... Walmart specifically told me that. So if the battery you really want fits a Honda, tell them you're buying it for a Honda and not a Ranger.

In my 94/96 & 97 4.0 ohv, the 65's were no problem bolt in. In my 2011 4.0 sohc I had to modify and install different battery tray to get the 65 to fit nice/safe. Where I grew up ( just north of Chicago il. ) the bigger the cca you could get the better for the months on November/December/January/February.

I have been running a Group 34 Optima Redtop battery in my 02 since the first battery change. The hold down is the same type but I think I had to make a slight modification to make it totally secure.
