The 2.3 I pulled from my '87 for a 302 swap had a brand new 2g alternator on it that I want to reuse but it wont reach. The 2.3 mounts on the drivers side. I've heard V6 Rangers had the alt on the pass. side. Is that true? What years had the 2g alternator and will the harness plug in to the main harness on my truck like the 2.3 one does? I've heard 2g alts. are bad enough to catch fire so I'd rather not extend all the wires to reach.

My credo
If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
Go ahead and extend the wires, just do a good job-no scotch locks. I worked for a dealer from 75-17 and never saw an alternator catch fire. I'm using a 2g on my current project Ranger.

I guess that's what I'll do for now. Maybe I'll get one of those 1-wire alternators at some point so all the wires aren't running over top of the motor. Was there ever a factory Ford SB V-belt setup with the alternator on the drivers side?

I don't think I've seen the alternator on the left before, if you don't have power steering you can probably mount it where the pump would have been.

I don't have power steering but I don't think it'll fit after looking at it real good. The fuel pump and oil pressure gauge adaptor are in the way. I'll just extend the wires for now. Thanks.
