About a week ago, I tried to open my driver's side door and nothing happened when I pulled the inside handle. So, I've been opening the window and opening with the exterior handle. It works, but it's awkward.

Is it easy to get to the broken part of the door latch mechanism?
Is it easy to replace?

I've searched the forum for similar situations and found some discussion of door latch cables. Is that what I have in the 2001 Ranger?

Is there a how-to posted somewhere online that is generally agreed to be THE list of steps to follow?

Thanks,
Eric

You probably have a broken handle or cable. You do have cables.

But you need to take the door card off and look to see what is broken before you can determine what you need or how hard it will be.

When you say "door card", is that the inner door panel?

Unless yours has a deck of playing cards in there somewhere. If so, remove those first, then the door panel.

moisture seal?

HA! Yeah, I'm not expecting to find any playing cards in the door. :)

This A1Auto video shows peeling back the moisture seal to get the door latch assembly apart.
Am I doing to need to put some new adhesive on that to make it stick again?

Probly not, but maybe. depends on how you remove it. I used Gorilla 2 sided tape to replace mine. DONT DO THAT. that stuff is hard to remove without destroying whatever it is stuck to.
