My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Background; '93 Ranger, 3.0L, M50Dr1, 1354e, no cruise.

1. When finishing up my clutch replacement yesterday, I came across an electrical connector near the distributor that I am having trouble identifying. I've looked at electrical diagrams and searched bunches of "mystery wire/connector" threads. No luck yet. As I said, it is near the distributor, is only about 4" long coming out of the harness, round, keyed, 2 wires. One wire is purple with yellow stripe. Other wire appears to be orange and yellow. Everything seems to be running fine. Thought it might be SPOUT test connector. But if that was the case, my understanding is that it should have a jumper plugged in. My buddy unplugged the ignition connector from the distributor and removed the cap so we could tilt the motor back a bit to access the upper bell-housing bolts. Otherwise, Dist. might have hit firewall. He said he didn't unplug the connector in question. I'll upload a picture later when I can get outside for a phone signal. Only possibilities I have found in the electrical diagrams are a couple orange/yellow wires that would be associated with "speed control" (cruise?) if that were installed. No cruise on this truck. Just a heavy foot.

2. Where is the RF noise suppression capacitor supposed to be located? I would like to make sure it is connected and good due to some RF coming in on my CB while accelerating.

The wire colors for the mystery plug are common O2 sensor colors. But without a picture of the plug it is hard to say what it was for.

RF capacitor on a distributor or EDIS system is usually on or very close to the coil bracket. On a COP system they are usually at the front of the engine.

If your RF noise is a pop it may be the capacitor or the coil. If it is a whine that increases with RPM look at the alternator first.

It was for the A4LD automatic trans, so not used with manual trans

Orange/yellow and purple/yellow wires

Have the same on my 1994 with manual trans, mine has a plastic plug/cap on it

Oh. And here is the picture, now that the question is answered.
