Did you double check the spark plug wires at the coil? That has got me a couple times.

Wait... Only one wire to the coil?

Either way, put the SD one back in and reconnected the MAP, and fired right up.

I'm starting to get a little squirrely over here, but now I'm questioning if I have the right MAF sensor

In the past I've found that "DA" ECUs in Rangers were for Federal-RWD-manual. Looking at Rock Auto, O'Reilly, AutoZone, etc, they show the same. O'Reilly's and others show an "RA" as California-4WD-manual.

When I search for F0TF-12A650-DA, it automatically cross references to E9TF-12A650-DA. When I searched for 58-2983, I also came up with a 4.9L. http://www.micro-tech-auto.com/images/pdf/ecmcat.pdf

I'd say it should be an "E8TF-12A650-RA" or, "F0TF-12A650-RA". https://www.autoecmstore.com/products/e8tf-12a650-ra

Appreciate it. Thought I was going nuts for a minute.

Waiting on a new one. Again. Lol

F0 is 1990
T is Light Truck & Bronco <<<< 7 here = Ranger/B2
F is electrical

12A650 is any EEC(Ford engine computer) still used today

DA is the software revision

1990 Ford F-150 or Bronco had inline 6 4.9l, or 5.0l V8 as engine options, also a diesel 7.3l

NO 2.9L for that EEC-IV

F07F is for 1990 Ranger, 7 = Ranger or B2

But could be 2.3l, 2.9l, or 4.0l engine, the last numbers after 12A650 tell that tale

Well. This is the last attempt. If this doesn't send it, microsquirt time.

Not disregarding what those that have been kind enough to reply have said; working off the 2.9L MAF guide in the tech section.

New ECU is in. Starts and runs like previous. Will not rev above 3000-3500 rpm, no power. When inline spout is pulled, runs like a lack of power, but will rev beyond 3000

Unplugging MAF sensor at connector does not change idle or running

KOEO:

57
Intermittent in Park/Neutral/ Switch or Neutral Pressure switch circuit
1990 Scorpio - Octane jumper installed (information only code - to inform you if it is installed or not)

16
1.9L & 2.5L - Throttle stop set too high
2.3L - RPM's too low
(O) Electronic ignition - IDM circuit fault

85
2.3L T/C Automatic - 3/4-4/3 Shift solenoid
CANP solenoid (ALL 1989)
(M) 1.9L MFI - System has corrected rich condition

89
A4LD - Converter Clutch Override solenoid
AXOD Torque Converter Control solenoid circuit
Exhaust Heat Control (heat riser) solenoid circuit

86
2.3L or 2.9L Truck - A4LD 3/4 shift solenoid
(M) 1.9L MFI - System has corrected lean condition

KOEO memory:

14
Ignition pickup was erratic
E4OD Transmission diesel RPM sensor

22
MAP (vacuum) or BARO signal out of range

45
AIR not Diverting (AIRD)
Electronic Ignition - coil primary circuit failure

66
Vane Air Flow (VAF) or Mass Air Flow (MAF) signal low
Transmission Oil Temperature (TOT) signal low (possibly grounded)

Called Ford dealer to cross reference part numbers. F07F-12A650-DA cross references to FOTZ-12A650-DA

Ran two different MAF sensors - An aftermarket Spectra Premium MA223, and a Ford F0VF-12B579-A2C. No difference

I'm starting to wonder if I have the MAF wired wrong. The only changes I made to my harness were to add the MAF sensor inputs and outputs to pins 14 and 15, and the MAP sensor 12V hot and ground. No other changes.

Checked MAF leads with meter. It is getting voltage and outputting signal.

Left my MAP plugged in. Disconnected the hose from the block and capped the block side.

Really stuck on this one ?

Wiring photos

Backprobing wires gets me 12v on red, 0 on black, 0.06 on brown, and signal on blue when air is blown into the MAF.

Do I have it wired to the wrong ECU pins?? ?

Yeah, that's where I have them going. Had to use trailer wire to make the extension. Tan is yellow, blue is green.

This one is literally driving me insane.

Now I'm second guessing where the MAF wires are connected. They're marked 14 and 15, but... Are they??

The Ford guy was wrong, FOTZ is a 1990 Ford F-series or Full size Bronco part number and in 1990 they used MAP sensors NOT MAF sensors
Which is why unplugging the MAF has no effect, there is no circuit on pins 14 and 15, they are not hooked up to anything in the computer

Ok, so the 2.9 MAF conversion page definitely needs updating.

Going to try the Ford part number posted. Otherwise, not sure how I'm going to break free of speed density without an aftermarket ECU.

Sorry Ron, having a bit of a blonde moment here...

So would that mean the Ford parts guy got his cross reference incorrect, or that the F07F-12A650-DA number is incorrect?
Screenshot_20190502-080419.png

What I went by for the F07F-12A650-DA part number.

There still is a chance that the current F07F-12A650-DA ECU I have in my possession is incorrectly labeled.

Really wish I had a breakout box...
