Ever wanted to do the Trans America Trail?

If interstate 10 wasn't such a known drug route with many police patrolling looking for people going from Florida to California, I would try that. I've heard that Texas takes almost 3 days to transverse and I haven't been much west of the Mississippi River past Little Rock, Arkansas, except for a trip to New Orleans back in '98 and a few summers in the DFW area.

I just need to lock down dates early in the year. It's not the kids. My wife is an Executive Director at 149 of the Fortune 500. She has to plan her whole year in advance. We are in Florida for Spring Break. We get home and the next day she is off for 2 weeks in India and China to visit some of her facilities. She just got back from Mexico before this trip to Florida. She is gone half the time, and to all the continents, If I want to do something, I need to get it locked in early so she can plan around it,

Maybe we could plan to do the Continental Divide Trail next year.

Been working on a route for June. Being from the midwest, it seems crazy that snow is still an issue in June. Some of the passes in Colorado may not be fully open until July. July is no good for me. It has to be June or August.

Ever wanted to do the Trans America Trail (TAT)?

In 2017 I traveled well over 7,000 miles through 13 states. This year I'm thinking about running the TAT in June.

How long did the trip take and anything to look out for? Like needing extra fuel cans and so on?

I kept a 5-gallon can of fuel in the bed, but I didn't need it.

That is something I could be interested in. I agree though, some mountain passes could be a problem in June. I was on a trip in the mountains of Nevada in June and we had to turn around several times. I think August would be a better time.

August would be better, easier, but I'll probably need that time to finish TRS-2 for the anniversary.

June would be more challenging. Snow in the higher elevations, and a lot of spring runoff.

I'm looking at a trip that would take the TAT west from Oklahoma to Oregon, then go down in to CA, over to Reno NV and then Vegas. Working my way down towards Big Bend in Texas.

It's hard to find friends to go that far. It's 13 hours drive from here, and it's still a bucket list item for me.
