thats prolly a bad ass powerplant, as i spy a banks turbo charger system on it, those 6.2's can ahndle the boost when turboed thats for damn sure, i had one in my old 83 burban, but it wasnt turbo but still had plenty enoguh grunt to recover all the biggest and baddest rigs when they got stuck

It's fine. This motor was 155hp 285ft# at the stock fuel setting of 48.5mm/stroke. The torque these make is directly varies with the fuel you can inject when you have a turbo on it, displacement doesn't really matter as long as you have unused oxygen in there. So this pump is capable of about 80mm/stroke, theoretically capable of 470ft#. Mines not turned up all the way--maybe to something short of 450ft#. It doesn't downshift on hills, though I pull it down when the temps get up to 1,000F. These high compression diesels aren't meant to be run that hot. I'm nice to it and it's nice to me. I don't beat it up and it does what I need it to do. Without the turbo, it was a hazard with anything more than 6,000# on the hitch. I had one of those 16' tandem trailers made out of angle iron and a wood deck--only weighed 1,350# empty. When I was using that the natural aspirated 6.2 was fine. When I got the 2-car trailer that was 3,600# empty it was too much for it. I was coming back from Attica and it was okay onnce I was on the highway, but when I had to merge onto the Indy beltway, it was a slight upgrade and I had the pedal to the floor and the truck would not gain speed--and it was 5pm on a friday. I had enough. With the turbo this truck pulls into traffic more quickly than Sam's 2002 7.3 Powerstroke which was a 520ft# with a 6-speed and 3.73s. Most of it is that the computer on his only gives you fuel when the cruise is on. Kind of annoying.

I replaced this:

With this:

The first was a 1989 Ford F-250 7.3L Diesel (non-turbo) with a C6 transmission.

The second is a 2007 Ford F-150 5.4L with an automatic and tow package.

I love the F-150. It's very strong and tows great.

I need to find and borrow a trailer like the one you have there Jim. I'm gonna be going over into PA to pick up a beetle here soon, and right now looking at renting something from U-Hual.

If I ever need a tow rig I'll just borrow a trailer and put it behind the old work truck.:icon_cheers:
But then again... it only has front brakes...
Maybe not such a good idea.

I pull with:

What I pull:

I don't have a picture of the tractor on the trailer or even of the trailer, it is just a standard car trailer with two 3500lb axles.

My credo
the grey-t escape
'94 351/E4OD/3.55's not nearly as good as what it replaced. (a '77 400/C6/4.10's)
my "light hauler" i had intended to start a busisness with this rig until fuel prices went through the roof, i get only about 14 with the ranger pulling this 6x9 haulmark trailer, the wind resistance from the front of the traailer is the biggest killer. trailer only weighs 1,000 pounds empty.
this is what i was going to replace the ranger with, overkill i know but a real sweet ride. has less than 70,000 miles, bought new by my dad to pull a 26' travel trailer. it has a 351/E4OD/3.55. gets 14 at best with no trailer. it replaced a '89 bronco with a 302/creeper 1st manual trans.

That's not underpowered. When my dad drove a semi when I was a kid, it only had a 275hp Detroit--it was enough and he drove coast to coast. Nowadays people expect to hook up a damn house and accelerate like they had little cars.

I hitched up the rig to go plow my grandfather's garden and test out my plow. It is the most weight I have pulled and it pulled it better than it has ever pulled the tractor before:icon_confused: Dunno what made the biggest difference between my exhaust, intake or the nice weather (low 70's opposed to mid 90's and humid when I normally pull it) but it pulled it like a champ. It always has pulled it great, just this time is better than I remember, plus the soundtrack of the 5.4 on the top of its game was hard to beat.:icon_thumby:

I do like the sound of those. Some people complain that they are buzzy, but that's just the 4+" stroke taking care of business. If I had a gasoline truck I'd probably have that motor in a crewcab F250 like Jspafford's. I don't need a V10 to get by and I imagine the mileage would be much worse in daily driving.
