I need new gears for my Dana 44 front axle... but i know theres many versions of the dana 44 so i need to know what things you need to know about the axle to get gears.
does it make a difference if its high pinion or not?
what is reverse cut?

About the only thing you will need to know is if it is a high pinion or low pinion D44. Any high pinion fromt axle will be reverse rotation (reverse cut) gears. I am not sure on carrier breaks on D44 some else will have to help you there. May need a different carrier depending on the gears you have now VS. what you are changing to, but I don't think the D44 has a carrier brake.

D44 carrier break is 3.73&down, 3.92&up.
If your ratio change crosses that barrier, you'll need a different carrier (may be a good time to add a locker at the same time).
Very early D44 axles had 19 spline inner shafts. Everything after (I think) 1970 or so should be 30 spline.
ALL HP Ford D44s are 30 spline.

You can also get gears with a thick ring gear to compensate for the carrier break
