Threaded rod Vs bolt strength

Any know what the strength difference is between 7/8 national corse gr 5 and 8 threaded rod and gr 5 and 8 bolts???

For the same length section, grade 5 or grade 8 all-thread should be the same strength as a grade 5 or 8 bolt. All-thread is just a long bolt without a head.

I don't think you will find a grade 5 or 8 threaded rod. The equivalent would be a Grade B7 stud, meets ASTM 197, should be marked on the end with a "B". Rod you find at a hardware store is about a third of the strength. Fastenal would carry what you want.

Interesting read, might have learned something today! At work we use the B7 studs with the heavy nuts in pipe flanging applications. Usually they are over sized so much, never would see any failure. Think even the Grade 5 7/8" bolts are rated for a 6300 pound load and the grade 8 good to 9000 pounds, that's with safety factors applied.
