Can some one tell me if I messed up by removing the computer and engine harness for my 2.9 when I put in my 351w carbed? I dhdnt think I needed it but then realized I need some aspects to make the fuel pump and a.c. Etc work. I can't find anything to specify what route I'm supposed to take. I'm using a 93 351w with an AOD in a 91extra cab ranger and I carbed it with a 650 holly. Also any ideas on exhaust manifolds oR headers? I keep coming up empty. Please email me at jeremy.cash45@yahoo.com. Any help is greatly appriciated!!!

i actually have hooker comp headers for the windsor brand new never used looking to get rid of them idk if they will fit. best bet is to go with shorties and pipe it down from there. Also just wire your fuel pump straight to an 12v ignition source.

I'd look into a mechanical or aftermarket fuel pump and a non-computer controlled A/C setup. If you want to run a carbed engine you will save yourself a lot of headaches by getting rid of all the computer stuff.
To keep any of the computer stuff, I'd go looking to EFI it. It's not that much work if you took a 2.9 out.

Just out of curiosity, why did you go carbed when the EFI v8 is so similar to the system on the engine you took out? If you already had the carb stuff around I get that, but I've priced this stuff for my mom's car, and the parts for either run about the same.
In the long run, the EFI system will probably be the least head ache.

Also just wire your fuel pump straight to an 12v ignition source.
You are gonna run it really rich if you do that without putting a regulator in.
The 351 carbed will be looking for maybe 15 PSI at high RPM. Your stock pump will produce more like 30 to 40 with a straight 12V system. That's fine on the original return-type fuel system if it gets a bit high. On your carbed returnless system that will be way too much.
I'm not saying that you can't wire the pump to a 12V hot key-on post, just make sure you have a good regulator in place too.

I will have a regulator and probably the relay as well,I went carb for time and because I'd have to buy a lower intake with the short style upper and parts are hard to get in my area used.I did some horse trading to get the set up I have now so I saved a lot of money since I'm already in the red on this.

PUT A TRANSMISSION COOLER on that puppy.
I went through two good used trans before I put a cooler on my AOD and last I checked with the guy who bought it is still on the road 10 years later.
Do NOT direct fit the stock pump. Buy a regulator. Although thats a bit of a double edged sword in its self.
What part of the country are you in BTW ?
I have a brand new holley regulator just lying here.

Where the computer harness plugged in you should have a key on hot you can use for the fuel pump. I am guessing the power to the A/C would be in the same connector just route it thru the pressure switch to the a/c clutch and you can also put a solenoid on the carb to up the idle when the a/c is on using the same wire. Guys around here use them all the time for on board air using the a/c pump as a compressor thru a pressure switch/valve/regulator on the air tank.

Aye yi yi.........
You could have just went with a basically plug and play 5.0 EFI but went with carb and now you are going to go to go injection the hard way ?

Haha there's a story to it all,I had the 302 and gave it to a friend with a new baby and a blown engine,he needed it more than me at the time. Bought a 351 for my half ton and sold the truck body whitch left me with a new motor so I just put it in my ranger.the plenum was cracked and I didn't have a harness but had a new holley so I just put it in that way.holly projection will bolt rite on and hook up easily later or a truck avenger, right now I just want it to run again.
