I couldn't figure out why my rebuilt engine was pushing out rear main seals and leaking oil so bad. I got fed up with it and sent it to a mechanic friend of mine. He found the problem.
1. The rear main cap wasn't lined up properly and was leaving the main seal loose.
2. The oil pan seal was wrong, causing a misalignment with the trans.
He has to pull the motor out to fix it, so it cost me $900 to get it back. I wonder how much of the $75 per hour labor charge the mechanic gets?
This was waaay more than I planned on putting in the truck, especially since I was going to sell it or trade it off after Christmas. I think I'll take a huge hit on this one.
