my motor blew and found a 4.0 but its a 2002 model both trucks are 4 wheel drive and i am gonna buy the whole truck so i will have the comp engine transmission transfer case and all. what is needed and will it fit. never done this before. not enough money to buy new truck. if not where is the best place to buy a rebuilt 3.0

The 02 4.0 is a SOHC. If I were you, i'd just try and find a junkyard 3.0 or a rebuilt/reman 3.0.

Where are you located?

ga. i will be able to strip the 2002 if needed

You can't just put in the engine as the bell housings are different.I don't know why you could'nt change the engine and trans. There's going to be electrical things to overcome switch looms motor mounts. Most people like the 4.0 better anyway.

How hard are you willing to work for it?

The harder you'll work the better your chances of success.

will it work as long as i strip it down?

You'll need engine, with FEAD and brackets, mounts, trans, wires, PCM, all sensors, and probably dash wiring too.

Anything I missed guys?

Of course it will work, I don't think it's worth it though. I'm not sure what's different in the computers between them but you will have to switch them.

Programming. I think the boxes themselves are pretty much the same, physically. I think its just the software that is different, but you'd still need to switch them.

That, also a bunch of sensors.

if he has the engine he probably has all the sensors

the dash wiring is the same truck to truck , it would be counter productive to have different dash wiring , my 97 does not have fog lights , but the plug and wired are there in the dash for it

thanks guys anything else just post need all the help i can get

should i switch the transfer case too?

I don't think they changed anything in the 1354 transfercase between those years. I'd just keep it as a spare.
