Originally from Windsor Ontario! Been up in Edmonton for about a year now. Looking for other individuals with some of the same hobbies......mountain biking, RC cars.....and pretty much anything automotive realated. Grew up in the automotive capital of Canada so you either play with cars......your work is tool&die or tool&mould.

things have become rough down there the last few years and with the automotive industry deciding if they want to keep any plants running is anyones guess? But things are changing......in what direction we shall see. Since you guys are from Edmonton...what are some of the better junk/recycling yards in the city?

My son is just about ready to come home, He waiting to see if his job is good still or finished.

yeah dirtsquirt, that seems to be the theme down there at the moment:sad: a few friends are taking it hard with the un-employment issues.

dirtsquirt

Well that is a direct effect of a region putting all the egg's in to one basket. Ontario was built from the auto industry and government, alberta with oil and gas, British columbia logging, Sask, and manitoba, farming. Quebec!! hands out's from the rest of the country
eastern canada fishing.

And when the main job provider takes a hit, everything else does.

direct and to the point. People I went to school with that started at the big3 right out of high school thought there jobs were going to be there till they retired! Enough doom and gloom for the moment, haven't even picked up the new truck yet and I already have part numbers for the things I want to change:icon_thumby:

for all the Edmontonians on the forum........this weekend is 1/2 off at the pick&pull yard on 118a Ave. Plan on shooting out there on Sunday if anyone else decides they want to go and look for something useful.

Yeah dirtsquirt, being getting info on the tonneau cover, torsion keys, steel wheels and some snow/all terrian tires and realizing that money is a whore we all love and HATE:icon_thumby:

LOL yup it fall's out of ones pockets quicker then it fall's into.

there is a shop 91 street south of 63rd ave, east side has some good deals on tonneau and caps,

car bashers on clover bar road north of the rail road tracks on the west side, has sales on used parts all the time, and a real deal on saturdays.

I know off topic but, I'm going to be spending a few days out in Edmonton (my girl really wants to see the WEM.) where is a good/cheap place to stay out there, and what else is there to do if I get board of the mall? I’ll be out that way the 15th-18th ish.

yup the commercial hotel on 82 ave around 40 per night, not the nicest but one of the cheapest.

there's a hostel around 30 per night, not real good for couple's

http://www.hotelsbycity.net/guides/can/alberta/edmonton/10200364/ around 45 per night nice place central area, easy access

http://secure.hotelsbycity.net/hotel/?refid=1000&rs_hid=2670605 around 60 per night and close to the mall

there are a couple more south of the city, kind of out the way for about the same prices.

And there's lots to do depends on your interest's....

I heard that also but I know a lot of people have been playing in there lately. If you don't mind where did you get your info from?

If so do you know of any areas in the west end to play?

Some of that area is leased out and some is open public land. Most of that utility's corridor is open to the public. the fenced area east of the power line is leased and private.

Not sure about the corridor west of the walmart, i know the corridor south of stony plain road is puplic i did alot of work there the last couple years.
I spoke to the local PD about the 105 Ave-184st. I was in there taking some photos of a coyote family, all they asked for was proof of licence and insurance.

Any off roading on city property within the city limits is illegal and is trespassing. It's not a matter of if but when you'll get caught and ticketed.
There are no real close area's to legally offroad near Edmonton other than Lee's near Sherwood Park. Next closest is Redwater and Vega out past Barrhead.

That is not CITY Property!!!!! It is a Utility Corridor, = crownland, it not leased out as it's not posted.

You better check your facts. I am a member of NA4WDA and we've had many discussions about those areas. In fact we will be getting a letter from the city about such activitys and I'll post it here once we have it ( and get permission to post it )

I repeat, there are NO open public land available for 4x4ing in or near the city. That includes Devon and anywhere near the North Saskatchewan river.

I am an equipment contractor, I sent a bid into the goverment of alberta for some work to improve water flow. on that site

I sent some photos to the city last year, of guy's dumping garbage, I got a call back from the alberta goverment, never heard a peep from the city!

Yes some Utility corridors are leased out and deamed (private)
