This is probably an easy one for most of you. I purchased the Warn manual locking hubs with the spindle nut conversion kit. I have gone through most if not all the literature on this site, and others. Most refer the spindle nut socket for this job as the " Ford Spindle nut tool"

Simple question, is there more than one size socket for the Dana axles? I have not done the job yet, but I did find the so called Ford Spindle nut tool at the local PEP Boys for about $14. It is too large for the spindle nuts I purchased for the conversion. I must have bought a socket for the larger D44, or D60 axles?

Thanks for any help. This is a great website.

FYI - I own a 97 Ranger Supercab 4x4 w/D35.

No. The same socket works on Dana 28 and Dana 35 manual hubs spindle nuts.

The auto hubs are different.

There are different size sockets available but the one that fits the 35 fits all the 35's

i bet you have the same one i have. rather than going around the nut, it just has 4 prongs that fit into the slots. makes it really easy for the socket to slip off if youre horsing on it. the one shown in the pic is a much better design.

I have that one also. I went to my local auto parts store when it kept slipping off and the guy sad to use the one pictured for the dana 28 and 35 and the other on the dana 44. I paid $13 dollars for it.

I find the difference in prices really anoying. My socket cost me over thirty bucks and took me a week to find anyone that had one, or even knew what I was talking about. Canada sucks for prices.

Mine has just the 4 prongs without the outer lip. I have sent it flying across the garage MANY times because it slips off right at about 145 ft. lbs.

Yeh I did the same thing. After I purchased the crappy one with 4 prongs, I noticed that my dad had the better one pictured above. He had it for his 89 Ford Bronco. So I think I am going to steal it since he has no use for it. Just curious, what axle would he have had. It was had a 351 4x4, electric hubs, but manuel transfer case. That would have been my truck had he kept it a little longer.

The socket I bought was the only one anyone in my area carried, and it's not something you think to buy until you need it, so I had to get what I could take.

The Fullsize should have had a Dana 44 TTB.
