pure function man. I use mine a lot. The only browning I can find is a BPS on the browning page. http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/firearms/detail.asp?value=011B&cat_id=012&type_id=211

i have the 870 and it works well for everything i need the only issues iv ever had was jamming on the reloads but that was more my error then the gun as i wasnt pulling the pump fully back to clear the 3'' shell before racking the next round in. just looking at the interactive site with the BPS im liking it i have to say. alot of nifty lil things.
but on that same token them nifty things add more to go wrong. the safty i really like though. and they offer from the factory great looking sights. but im sure the guns a bit more spendy then the 870

Remington all the way. I was looking at some Browning ant noticed some are made in Turkey and their Knives are made in China, sorry no thanks. I want to try and keep my $$$$$ here in the USA. John M. Browning would be rolling in his grave if he saw the things Brownings up

The Browning BPS is made in Japan.
Nice Shotgun, my brother has two of them, one in 12ga and the other in 10ga.
IF you are looking at using it on migratory birds go for the BPS10
a 10ga kicks ass compared to any 12ga, even the 3-1/2" chambered guns.
That being said my brother also has TWO Remington 870's, one in 12ga the
other in 20ga
what do I have? I have two Remington 870's and a Mossberg 500 all in 12ga.
Now if you told me you were left handed I'd say BPS all the way.
the BPS is a bottom eject shotgun and thus by design is an
ambidexterous firearm.

That is a nice feature to have so you don't have to chase shells around if you shoot it a lot. I try to pick up after myself hunting too, and every once in awhile my 500 launches one or two that I can't find.

I agree with AllanD. If you reload or are ambidexterous, the Browning is the one. Mainly since you don't have to go find your ejected hulls. I like both guns but I like the convinience of being able to bend over to collect my cases. If I'm not mistaken, FN of Belgium now owns Browning and Winchester. Who knows who owns whom anymore. You'll be happy with either one.

After years of trap shooting I instinctively catch my empties in mid-air
and put them in my shotshell pouch.
I sometimes do it so quickly that people shooting with me are looking on
the ground for my fired hulls before realizing there aren't any...

As for the 10 gauge, a lot of the farms/ plantations around here and some wma's do not allow bigger than 20 for anything but deer/ turkey. I have a remington 870 now, but it;s old I have my great grandfathers reciept here somewhere for it bought somehwere in the 50's it may not be a 870 but it's a remington pump, think he paid around $75 for it new from a local store that still here, but no longer sells guns or ammo.

That works. What happens when you shoot doubles?
By the way AD, do you mind if I PM you to ask a question?
mentalbreakdown00
08-06-2009, 11:46 AM
what double barrels? same rules some do not want bigger than 20 gauge. I am looking for a new one because my great grandfathers is starting to show its age, i know it's had over a million rounds through it, but has been carefully maintained and has never failed. Was looking at the brownings cause my first gun was a browning .22 lr bolt action, still have it....

Double clay birds while Trap Shooting. Is your Browning 22 a T-bolt? I'm not talking about the new ones, I'm talking about the old ones made in Belgium. If it is the old style, you have to be careful with them. The old T-bolts had stocks that were salt cured and not salt cured. If maintenance was not performed regularly, of course the weapon would rust where the stock touched the metal. I've seen that too many times.

coffee I have no idea on that the rifle is exactly 20 yrs old. No, not considered mossberg cause I have never owned or shot one and I don't wanna spend 2-500$ on something I cannot try or have not tried. But If enough people suggest it maybe.

i dont have any experience with the bps, but they look nice. my only concern is the bottom eject, my guess is that system takes more parts to operate, which means more parts to fail. it looks like it would be harder to clean too. but i dont have experience with it so i dont know. but for me personally, id buy remington, they're cheaper and you know they're reliable.

Actually it doesn't have any effect on reliability.
Famed Arms designers John M. Browning and John Penderson designed the basic mechanism used in both the Ithica Model 37 and the Browning BPS.
(As well as the remington Model 31 which preceeded the current 870)
the largest single user of the Ithica Model 37 is the LAPD and I think if there were a reliability problem with them they would have bought something else
to replace them in the SIXTY YEARS they have been using them.
The BPS is essentially a more polished and refined version of the Model37
The BPS and Ithica have no "ejector" as the "loading gate" or "shell lifter" throws one shell down while moving into position to lift the next round into position for the bolt to drive it into the chamber....
The one thing that might take some getting used to is loading
single rounds they must be loaded into the magazine tube with
the bolt closed and the action cycled. on a conventional side
ejection pump shotgun a single round dropped in through the
ejection port and the action closed to fire single shots.
Tat all being said if I were in the market for yet another pump shotgun
in 12ga or 20ga it'd probably be another Remington, if I were looking for
a 10ga It'd be a Browning because the Browning BPS-10 is the only
one out there...

I can't vouch for shotguns (don't own one). But if Remington makes shotguns like the 700 CDL bolt-action rifle. Then Remington all the way.
Browning is also a good firearm company too.

Well I have a 870 and I have never had a problem, that was the guns issue. I was using my buddy new bennilli blackbird semi-auto 12ga while doing sporting clays. well when I switched back to my 870 I forgot to rack another sell in for my second bird. I really love my 870 express, Good for everything I do.
But I have to say that the Blackbird is a awesome gun compared to the 11-87, the 11-87 seemed to jam when ever we used the 2 3/4" bird shot, But 3" goose shot never had a issue. some thing to do with the exhaust ports.

Look at Stoger arms their made by Bennilli for a hell of a lot cheaper.

Mossberg good!!!!!
+1, I like mine. I have a 500 and a 702 Plinkster, and I like them both.
Wouldn't mind getting a 464 30-30 to round out the collection someday.

In my opinion, Mossberg's are the best bang for the buck. They are, in most cases, cheaper than the Remingtons. Browning, on the other hand, doesn't even compare. Unless you want to spend autoloader prices for a boring pump gun...

+1, I love my Benelli Nova
I also have a Remington semi-auto, it's a great gun, however, it does tend to jam a bit.

Ok guys, held a remington, browning, benelli, mossberg, and a cheap brand i forgot the name. Mossberg and Browning are out, I do not like the pump lock location on the back l/h of the trigger gaurd. I like the feel and balance of the benelli a lot, better than the remington. One problem on the benelli the [ump lock is almost too far forward for me to easily get to it. I will go hold them again, I couldn't make a decision today.

Well, I don't have to buy me a new one. My dad and I were talking and he brought over my grandpa's 2 sweet 16's, his remington 1100, and 870. Also my grandpa's last gun it's a browning over under that dad has the reciept for when bought in the 80's it was 4500 bucks. It's exteremely beautiful and handles sooo nice, but i'm scared to use it, lol.

I just bought me a Remington 870 Express Super Mag 12ga this past weekend for $359. Really not a bad price considering everything else started in the $500's. Took it the range and had some fun. It is a little oversized, but worth it for the kicks it does. Brand new, didn't have any problems. Shot a total of 25x 2-3/4" 1-1/8oz #8 and 2x 3" 15pellet 00-buck. After shooting the 3" 00-buck, I was kinda of afraid to try the 3-1/2" 1-3/8oz BB. But the cheap 2-3/4" shots were fun. Thou only 4~5 shots is too short for me, maybe a 10 shot tube is in order for a future upgrade.
