my mom owns a 97? ford ranger single cab 2.3 4 banger, just earlyer today its been reving real high like a valve isnt shutting and its alowing more gas through i guess is how u would put it, it only revs real high while accelerating but it stops after she gets up to speed.

Manual or auto trans?

o ya srry about that, its a manual trans with i think 110k miles, and before you say that maybe shes just pushin the rpm's up there shes not cuz ive drove it and it does the same thing, and it didnt do it the day before

I dont know if the smaller engine has a IAC but on the 4.0s the IAC is the common reason for high idle. they get stuck they fail.

IAC and TPS are normal issues on the 2.3... It should start throwing some codes.

I would suspect the clutch is slipping if it idles normally at a stop.

ok guys, mom says shes sure its not slipping clutch, but shes gonna do diagnostics, thanks

I would think it was the clutch too. I mean, there is no other way, really, for RPMs to be higher then what they are supposed to be for a given speed with a manual trans. Maybe it doesn't do it once it's up to speed is because you aren't on the gas once you get to your desired speed. Try taking off in 3rd and see if it dies. I can do 2nd gear starts easy in my truck, but to do 3rd takes a bit of clutch riding, or slipping in the case of a bad clutch.
