I have a 235x75 r15 and a 30x 9.5 r15. Mounted on the same rims, because the 235 is slightly shorter, but wider....will it be approx. the same height after mounting? It's 4x4. Will this small difference (maybe half an inch) affect gearing? Or am I worrying for nothing?

you have no need for concerns related to gearing.

Your only concern would be load rating. The "P" metric 235 will be of a standard load... extra load max. The 30X9.50 will be a load range "C". If all your gonna do is drive it on the road, a 235 standard load will give you a far better ride. They are also easier to find in remote areas. Another area to touch base on is the warranty. A "P Metric" tire will usually carry a road hazard warranty where as a LT tire will only be warranted for material and workmanship defects. It really up to you. They will both fit and are close enough to the same size that it really makes no difference otherwise.

I had 4 30in tires and found a 235 as a replacement for one that got a hole in it from a deer antler in a bean field.(Damn deer sheddings!!!!) But I took it down to a shop and they said they can do an internal patch. It was in the tread and not as big as I thought. And obviously many farmers come in with the same tire damage, with the same type of repair with no problem...Thanks.
