After fiddling around with my internet connectivity I noticed a rather large and unsightly collection of dust on my exhaust fan...I decided to pull the case cover to see if there was accumulation like the last time just before the cpu crapped out on me...

AIY CARUMBA LUCY!

I should have taken a picture...the cpu fan was literally covered with dust to the point where a few more dust bunnies would have plugged the fan...it's only been about two years since I last cleaned it out...

If you've got a minute, it's worth taking your computer cover off and have a quick look inside...

And should you be needing to clean it out...make sure to use a plastic vac nozzle to clean it out so as to avoid arching out and frying something...like someone I know has done (not me...)...

I set my compressor to about 15 lbs and shoot it with the air.

That is because you don't have enough air coming into the case and too much air being exhausted.

Eh? I thought it would be the other way around...I somehow left a slot open on the back end when I took out my fax/modem, and figured that was just another entry point...the case itself if well designed with about 6,000 holes punched into the sides and another couple of hundred in the back end.

I just hooked up the second power supply fan and that should draw the hot air away from the mobo and out the back fan...

So, my thinking, the holes allow all kinds of air to flow into the case and the two exhaust fans should pull air through the sides...should it not?

I was considering putting those vent filters over some of the lower holes to try to keep dust out, but never did get around to it...

if you have more air coming in it creates a positive pressure inside the case.

Goodness this is going to turn into another e-fan crapshoot...

I know what you mean about dust. Every once in a while I pull the ones apart at work and take them down to the shop and blow then out. Need goggles and a mask.

Ah, that makes sense...I just did a smoke test on it...and the smoke didn't get sucked into the case...so maybe the extra fan will help...

That's why I use a vacuum...just brushing the fins with a small nylon brush created quite a dust storm...so I put the nozzle inside the case while I was doing it...guess I could have pulled the fan out to clean it...

How do you figure? There have been a lot of questions about dust inside PC's and the solid answer to keep it out is bring in more air than being exhausted.

I hear ya. 2 years is WAY too much. I do my work PC about once a month, but it is in a dusty environment.
